Australian-born trumpeter, pianist and composer David Lewis is co-founder of the internationally-renowned group Paris Combo, with which he recorded nine albums and performed world-wide over a 25-year period until the untimely death of the group’s singer-songwriter Belle du Berry in 2020.

Originally coming to France to study at the Paris Conservatoire, Lewis later toured and recorded extensively with African-jazz legend Manu Dibango. He has also performed and recorded with a diverse array of Paris-based artists including Arthur H, Gianmaria Testa, Marc Perrone, Maurane, Carla Bruni, Lokua Kanza, Cabaret Sauvage, l’Orchestre de la Lune, John Greaves and, most recently with star choreographer Philippe Decouflé.

Current projects include a quintet with fellow Australian Jody Sternberg, paying tribute to cabaret icon Eartha Kitt.

Australian trumpeter, pianist and composer David Lewis is a member of the internationally acclaimed group Paris Combo and co-producer of the group’s six studio albums to date. Along with lead-singer Belle du Berry, he is also co-composer of much of the group’s output.  Venues and festivals where they have performed include the Hollywood Bowl, Olympia, le Grand Rex, la Cité de la Musique, SF Jazz, Montréal Jazz Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival…

Parallel with Paris Combo he has worked extensively as an arranger and multi-instrumentalist with an eclectic array of  artists including Manu Dibango, Arthur H, John Greaves, Lokua Kanza, Gianmaria Testa, Maurane, Carla Bruni, Marc Perrone, Dominique Blanc-Francard, l’Orchestre de la Lune….

His compositions for film include several scores for the celebrated Australian documentary film-maker David Bradbury. As a composer in the theater he has worked with Marc François, Noël Casale, Edith Scob, Raphaëlle Gitlis, including projects for Festival d’Automne, Festival d’Avignon. He was musical director of the inaugural « Cabaret Sauvage » revue at La Villette in Paris.
